Welcome to my store! I am Ana Maria, owner and founder of Rrraw Chocolate.
I grew up on the other side of the Iron Curtain, where chocolate was a luxury we had to queue for, when and if available. So when it did become available, I became a chocoholic and moved from milk to dark 65% to dark 80% and up to 99%. At that point, supermarket, mass chocolate no longer worked for me.
I traveled the world discovering craft chocolate. I realized that Africa, as the continent where 70% of the world's cacao grows, deserves better quality, locally made chocolate. This is how Rrraw was born.
I had the privilege of living in Cote d'Ivoire as part of my life journey, where I discovered all about chocolate and the lives of cacao growing communities. This made me realize the deep inequalities in the supply system. This is why at Rrraw, I strive to source ingredients directly from local producers in West and East Africa. I pay a higher price for ethical sourcing that allows local farmers a decent wage and livelihood.
